Wednesday, October3, 2007 Marc and I braved the cold and were rewarded with one good hour of 100% planing.  I was on my 5.2 and Marc was on his 4.7.  The water is even lower than it was in Marc's pictures from September 16.
I told Marc NOT to fall!

#22 Wed, Sept. 12, 2007 Report from Chris G.:
wind report for Wed. 9/12
Wind was filled in nicely at 13 - 15 with an occasional gust into the low 20's. Perfect day for Doug Webb or two goofy kiters. Doug was a no show but Erin and Chris hit the water. Erin was first out on a 9 meter a little under powered but still got good rides and a few good dunks too. Next was Chris on a 14 meter he got good rides and some totally out of control down wind runs, Major achievement was he got back to the truck were he started.A word of caution, stay up wind of these tea baggers

#21 Friday, Sept. 7, 2007 Report from Marc D:

Flat water or open water take your pick. I launched from the West Side and sailed mostly inside one of the offshore blowing coves while Mark W. and BT came from East Side and were doing long shore to shore reaches- the NW wind direction was perfect for that. It blew in the 20-30 mph range with some lulls-perfect 5.5 to 6.1 conditions.

Labor Day weekend in the Gorge We went to the Gorge for the weekend.  Saturday  there was absolutely no wind, so Jim, Kathy, Ray, Sheila and Kirk went on a bike ride.  Sunday it blew.  Monday morning not windy so we went on another bike ride up the Klickitat River before driving home.

#20 Tuesday, August 21, 2007 Outrageous afternoon, I was overpowered on my 5.2.  I was the only sailor until Chris, a new sailor to Magic, showed up.  He was still sailing when I left.  Sunny, wind blowing from 24-38 mph.  It was more west/southwest than it was Sunday and filled in solid.  It made for really smooth conditions.  A few of the gusts were strong enough to blow the crusties off of a blow flies ass.  The first hour I was in survival mode.  The last 1 3/4 were lit with a flattened out 5.2.
#19 Sunday, August 19, 2007 Quite a few sailors showed up at Magic today.  It was good to see John M., Wayne and Ray at the lake today along with the regulars (about 7 guys in all).  We arrived as a front was pushing through and  were  sailing 4.7's and 5.2's.    After the front passed the sun came out and the wind backed off.  It came back as everyone was leaving.  Marc was the only one rigged up so he went back out.

#18 Friday, August 10, 2007 I got down to Magic about 3:00 and rigged my 5.7.  I slogged about 200 yds. and thought, "Ahh shit!"  I looked upwind and saw a dust storm coming, "Oh, shit!"  The wind came on strong and instead of adjusting my sail size I adjusted where I sailed - I hid out in the West Magic hole and eventually worked my way up past Lava Point into Camas Creek Cove and hid under the bluff.  I had a great time sailing right under the wind meter.  I was the only one on the water, no boats or fishermen.  When I left at 5:30 Wade was going out on a 4.7.

#16 June 29, 2007 Sailable day at Magic, report of sailor spotted on water.
#15 Monday, June 25, 2007 BT and Gammon were first on the water, on 5.7-6.0 sails.  I went out on my 5.7 and started out good then the wind backed off.  Marc was on his 5.5.  We hung out on the beach for a while then the wind came back and Marc and I went back out.  About 10-15 minutes after Chris left the wind kicked in.  Scott G. and Wayne showed up and by the time they rigged up the wind was blowing well.  Wayne was on a 5.2, 90 litre board.  Check out the guys doing 360's.  Click here for photo enlargement page (photos from 24th and 25th).

#14 Sunday, June 24, 2007 Marc and I sailed in less-than-perfect conditions.  I was on my 6.5 and planing about 35% of the time.  We counted 14 boats on the water at one time.  The water in the reservoir is going down.  Photos from Marc D. Click to see photos from the 24th and 25th enlarged.
#13 Monday, June 18, 2007 Here's a report for Monday June 18;

Wind was a lot stronger than Jim and I thought it would be. It even lulled Jim into not bringing his 5.2. I was way overpowered on a 5.5.

Rigged a 4.7 and had a great time. Jim hung onto a 5.7 and made it look easy even though he said he was sheeted out half the time. As windy as Sunday if not more so and nicely filled in.

#12 Sunday, June 17, 1007 Big day at Magic - about 12 sailors including two I didn't know.  When I got there it was holey and by 4:00 or 4:30 it started filling in.  By 5:00 it filled in really good.  Too bad I was too tired to stay any longer.  It was cooler today but sunny, no clouds.  What great days we had this weekend.  Makes you glad you live in the WR Valley, huh?  Sail range from 4.7 to 5.8, mainly 5.0's.

Jim S. sent two photos from yesterday.

Click here to see them enlarged.

Saturday, June 16, 2007 It was a good day for the young guns to tear up the lake.  Mark W. sent these pictures of Keara and Chris enjoying Father's Day weekend.  Click here to see enlargments.
#11 Thursday, June 14, 2007 There were 5 or 6 sailors at Magic Thursday.  It was blowing enough for 5.2's but it was holey.  Sunny gusting to the 30's.
#10 Tuesday, June 12, 2007 When I arrived at Magic it was 14mph, gusting to 33.  I started off on my 6.5 and got blown off the water within 20 minutes as the wind filled in.  I rigged my 5.7 and sailed until 6:00 under sunny skies.  As I was leaving at 6:30 Doug and John showed up and they should have had some good sailing as the wind was still blowing.
#9 Monday, May 28, 2007 COLD, COLD!  But windy.  All photos by Marc D.  click here to see photo page
#8 Sunday, May 27, 2007 The wind kicked in about 4:00, after the clouds started clearing off.  We started out on 6.0's to 7.0's.  After the wind filled in at about 5:30 Doug W. rigged his 5.7 and was planing the whole time.  6 or 7 sailors at lake today.  All photos taken by Marc D.

#7 Saturday, May 19, 2007  all photos from Marc D.  click here to see larger photos

Marc and Jim got to Myrtle Point first and were surprised to see solid whitecaps.  We rigged 5.5-5.7.  Just after we got on the water it backed off some.  I came in and rigged a 6.5 for the rest of the day.  Planed about 60% of the time, long periods between the wind.  Doug, Matt and Wayne had fun sailing, too.
#6 Sunday, May 13, 2007  all photos from Marc D.  click here to see larger photos By 12:30 it was full on 4.7.  Jim S, Jim W and a kiter got an hour of sailing before Marc D, Wayne, Scott and B.T. showed up.  After those guys got 1 good hour in,  the wind got shifty, dropping down to 5.8 - 6.0 wind.  Doug showed up about 4:45, he rigged a 7.0 and was way over-powered.  He went out at 5:45 on his 6.0.  He looked lit up quite nicely and the wind came back solidly.  Chris came out from the east side (he was on a tight leash - Mother's Day.)
#5 Saturday, May 12, 2007 Marc and I sailed, it was up and then mostly down but enjoyed getting out there.
#4 Wednesday, May 9, 2007 If only . . . . we had gotten there an hour earlier.  Marc and I were on the water about 5:00, Marc on a 4.7 and I was on my 5.7.  It was 19, g to 29.  For the first 15 minutes we were really going then the wind started to shut down.  We sailed for another hour - getting good pulls every 10 or 15 minutes.  Practiced our slow sailing techniques and tricks during lulls.
#3 Sunday, May 6, 2007 Marc and I sailed at Magic today.  We got a late start, got to the lake at about 4:00.  Had a good 1/2 hour of planing, some lower wind sailing.  Saturday was extremely windy but just too cold to bear.
#2 Wednesday, May 2, 2007 A storm was predicted and about 2:30 the wind started blowing.  I got on the water at 3:45, sailed 45 minutes only planing 3-4 times.  I was on the edge of the clouds.  There was blue sky to the south.  At about 4:30 the wind kicked up and was steady.  I was planing 100% for an hour.  Finally it became too strong for my 6.5 and I packed it in.  They haven't started taking water out of Magic, the Richfield canal is still dry.
#1 Sunday, April 29, 2007 High overcast greeted us at Magic for the first day of the season.  When we arrived it was 78o and the wind was up and down.  Marc was on a 6.1 and I was on a 6.5, we were planing 50-60% of the time.  When we left the temperature had fallen to 69o.  There were a couple of other guys there but they didn't have big enough sails so they didn't go out.
